VIDEO: Mid-Century Modern Marvels

Like little jewels set against a desert backdrop, Mid-Century Modern architecture is the DNA of Greater Palm Springs. These time-machine beauties are peppered throughout average neighborhoods. Blink and you could miss them. From private homes, to civic buildings like fire stations and the city library, to public buildings like various area banks and boutique hotels, they all echo an era that continues to create that iconic image of desert living.

Mid-Century modern is defined as developments in modern design, architecture and urban construction from roughly 1933 to 1965. It conjures an image of sitting by the pool and sipping martinis on the terrace. Today the Mid-Century Modern love affair is in full effect.  Thousands of tourists flock to Greater Palm Springs each year to catch a glimpse of the preserved architecture and leave with great photos and maybe even a sense of nostalgia about an era that embodied the true essence of desert living! Come for Modernism Week events every winter or stop at the Palm Springs Visitor's Center, purchase a $5.00 map and take a self guided tour of some of the area's most celebrated homes and buidings.
