Comic lovers and creators rejoice! On May 19 – 21, 2017, Fantasia Comic Con comes to the Riverside County Fairgrounds in Indio.

Unlike the behemoth Comic Con in San Diego, this Greater Palm Springs event offers a decidedly more intimate atmosphere while focusing on fun for the whole family.

Spreading the Love for All Things Comic Con

“We are simply people who love comics, fantasy, science fiction and pop culture,” says show coordinator Orlando Harding.

An avid fanboy since childhood, Harding is a writer for Devils Due First Comics and creator of the Night Stalker series. By launching Fantasia Comic Con, he hopes to spread that passion to other youth in Greater Palm Springs and beyond.

“We wanted to bring an opportunity for kids in the local community to connect, learn about the industry, expand their minds about possible careers in the field and generally have a good time,” Harding says.

Fun for All Ages

While the event is geared for young and old alike, what makes Fantasia Comic Con stand out from other conventions is its strong emphasis on getting kids involved.

The event aims to get youth excited about growing their own talents, too.

“I think there is a lot of undiscovered talent in the Coachella Valley,” Harding says.

That talent was showcased through Fantasia Comic Con’s video contest called “Walk in My Shoes.” Local youth were invited to reenact their favorite comic book scenes to win free tickets for their entire grade.

Unlike larger Comic Con events, this one offers fans a unique chance to directly interact with creators, actors and cosplayers. With ticket prices less than $20, it’s affordable family-friendly fun, too.
