Joshua Tree CandlesPeach Whiskers Goods

This vintage shop doesn’t house the pieces your grandparents wore — it’s an emporium of bold, graphic pieces that embody a futuristic spin on retro. Owner Jen Riley’s unique style is palpable in every corner of the store, from the jewelry hanging on hooks shaped like flamingo heads to the rainbow wood paneling in the fitting room. Riley breathes new life into overlooked items that grow stale on the racks by adding patchwork, fringe, or rhinestones. With her husband Dale Myers’ help, she constructed much of the shop using recycled wood, drywall, and paint. The second-hand carpets and kitsch-y decor help to portray Riley’s commitment to re-use and her knack for entertainment. Riley has curated an experience in Peach Whiskers, leaving visitors with a fresh eye for the charm in random objects and inspired to wear a little more color.

Molly Moon Crafts

An aromatherapy brand, Molly Moon Crafts specializes in natural soy wax candles that capture fresh and earthy notes from the Coachella Valley. Each jar serves as a subtle ode to simple pleasures in owner Molly Standley’s life — the tomato plants in her garden or the smell of desert rain. Committed to a mindful production process, Standley works with biodegradable wax and non-toxic fragrance oils, recycles packaging materials to minimize waste, and supports other local eco-friendly wellness brands in her monthly subscription box. Every candle purchase contributes to planting a new tree through Standley’s partnership with One Tree Planted, a project aimed at rebuilding forests after fires and floods, providing jobs for social impact and restoring biodiversity.

SUPERBLOOM

Inside the walls of SUPERBLOOM, old Tshirts in the bottom of the drawer become meaningful treasures. Shoes collecting dust in the closet become high fashion. At their contemporary art gallery and boutique, owners Alexis Palomino and Chris Ramirez revive pre-owned pieces by masterfully flicking, splattering, and dripping 12 hues of paint. Each color represents an element of self-expression — from passionate to self-loving to mysterious — and an opportunity for internal reflection.

Art & Sol artist series (2024) Alexis and Chris Ramirez / Superbloom Studios

Stop in to explore Palomino and Ramirez’s expert craftsmanship or embark on a more hands-on approach. By appointment, immerse yourself in a 90-minute creative workshop to upcycle your own piece. The studio’s splatter-paint-covered walls invite visitors to unleash their inner child and get paint where it “doesn’t belong.” But don’t worry, Palomino and Ramirez offer plenty of guidance to help you achieve the high-end look that they’ve perfected. SUPERBLOOM’s power is its ability to give new value to trivial objects. They teach an approach to upcycling that doesn’t just make an item trendier but infuses it with positive meaning and an association with uplifting self-discovery.

The Fine Art of Design

Nobody does vintage better than Nicolas Delgado. The likes of Chanel, Gucci, Louis Vuitton, and Yves Saint Laurent grace the racks of The Fine Art of Design, resulting in a mecca for environmentally conscious fashion aficionados. Under a mosaic of colorful hat boxes and decadent chandeliers, shoppers will find a color-coordinated time capsule of high-end vintage designer apparel. For festival-goers looking to veer away from fast fashion for their weekend ensembles, the shop offers plenty of statement pieces, like a sheer, polka-dotted tulle overlay dress and a fringe-covered vest and mini skirt set crafted from orange felt. Delgado sources most of his inventory from local women, who consign their apparel, jewelry, shoes, and handbags to be styled by the next generation. Alongside vintage garments preserved in their original glory, The Fine Art of Design showcases re-envisioned pieces, like earrings repurposed from 1980s Chanel gold-plated buttons.

MUCHO by Sofia Enriquez

Sofia Enriquez - MuchoThrough vibrant, geometric iconography and a signature feminine visage, Sofia Enriquez speaks to her journey as a female artist and upbringing in a working-class immigrant family. MUCHO, her upcycled clothing brand, features vintage apparel and accessories painted with a medley of symbols in Enriquez’s characteristic style.

She applies elements of street and pop art to give leather jackets, denim, shoes, and handbags a new story in the genre of female empowerment, cultural identity, or pop culture. Once a garment passes through Enriquez’s studio, it emits unapologetic passion, a bit of grunge, and animated playfulness. MUCHO is just one branch of her work, which has also included large-scale art installations at the Coachella and Stagecoach musical festivals and mural projects in Southern California and abroad.
