Love Local by a Local — Thriftology

Lori Rodgers (black.in.palmsprings) is the brand ambassador for Love Local, the series that explores the restaurants, shops, and businesses that make Greater Palm Springs unique. Lori moved to Palm Springs from Georgia in 2012 and has been exploring the destination ever since.

Calling all thrift shop lovers (and newbies)!  Thriftology is a local thrift store that carries new and previously owned items.  Its unique and diverse collections translate to “there is something for everyone!”  

About the Owner

The owner, Dutchess, has thought of everything to make your experience enjoyable, including great music; a bit of a bohemian feel, using upcycled fabrics to decorate; extra spacious dressing rooms; the scent of homemade incense; throwbacks to your childhood; cultural art; etc.  Thriftology is an “experience.”  

Rising Above the Odds

Thriftology celebrated its three-year anniversary on September 7, 2022.  Dutchess opened the shop nine months before the pandemic and had to shut it down three months into it.  She started selling items on social media and Poshmark…. And guess what?!  Instead of having to abandon this “baby” that she birthed, her “baby” flourished!  She moved from a smaller location to a larger storefront, just three doors down.  She hopes to one day open a second establishment in the near future.  

Unique Finds & Gems

Thriftology store has something for everyone! Everything you could possibly want, from A to Z, can be found here.  They have items such as albums, belts, candles, duffle bags (I actually saw a Louis Vuitton duffle bag), and so much more.  Go in with a friend and it will be even better than a treasure hunt.  Try to NOT say “Look what I found!”  It’s not possible!  

The best part... Thriftology is the store that keeps on giving!  If you follow them on Instagram, you just might stumble upon a class that you would like to participate in, like making a dreamcatcher, soap, candles, or painted rocks.
