Communications & Film
The Communications team logged 106 media touchpoints, initiated 25 targeted pitches and supported 27 media on the ground in Greater Palm Springs in September and October.
Story support was provided to outlets including Modern Luxury Palm Springs, Forbes, AARP, The Points Guy, Gluten Free Living, Smart Meetings, PureWow, Cool Hunting, California Meetings + Events, and CNN.
We hosted our first in-person group press trip in 24 months. Six drive market media joined us for Modernism Week events. We also just completed our first-ever photographer group press trip with two influencers and editors from Real Simple and Travel + Leisure.
With borders opening up for nonessential travelers, we have an increase in demand for on the ground support from international media from Germany, UK, France, Italy and Canada.
Press release efforts were focused on getting the word out on our organizational name change to Visit Greater Palms Springs, promoting Travel Professionals Appreciation Month, and working cooperatively with PSP on air service developments.
In September and October, the team conducted a total of 49 one-on-one appointments at Society of American Travel Writers (SATW) National Conference and IPW in Las Vegas. The team attended Visit California’s Los Angeles Media Reception with 38 media in attendance. The team also took part in two thought leadership opportunities: a panel discussion titled “Cultural Appropriation vs. Cultural Appreciation” at SATW and a panel on “Trends, Challenges & Opportunities” for Wellness Tourism Associations (WTA) 1st Annual Wellness Tourism Conference. Other projects for the Communications team included participation in Society of American Travel Writers’ DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion) Committee, Visit California PR Comittee, Visit California Rural Region Committee and weekly Riverside County PIO calls.
Below are dashboards showing our year-to-date total PR Quality Score and article stats. The PR Quality Score measures content coverage on a point system based on story type, media tier, visuals and coverage placement. Scores for earned media range from a low of 2 points to a high of 10 points.
