Communications & Film
The Communications team has seen an increase in media inquiries and requests for visits from both regional and national media. This has resulted in a steady flow of media coverage across both traditional and digital channels.
Top areas of media interest include:

- Outdoors/wellness
- Holiday offerings
- What’s new for 2021
Recent individual media hosting/meetings included Fodors, AFAR, Travel + Leisure, Style Canada, Westways, KXTV Sacramento, O The Oprah Magazine, Essence and more. The Communications team continues to share safety protocols for travelers to Greater Palm Springs, highlighting stories of city and partner pandemic pivots.
In October, the team directed their attention to amplifying Riverside County’s message on testing, focusing on the accurate dissemination of information and developing a grassroots effort for testing in Riverside County. The Communications team worked with the Brand department to develop a tool kit for this effort.
The Communications team also represented the destination at virtual shows, such as the Society of American Travel Writers conference including participation in its Media Marketplace. During the conference, the team conducted 12 one-on-one media appointments and participated as a panelist for the “Travel Media and Destinations” session along with Visit Orlando and Visit Milwaukee. The team also attended virtual events such as the Travel Unity Summit, Organic Spa Media Event, and Northstar Media’s Western States Expo representing Greater Palm Springs and the California Desert Region.
Below are dashboards showing our year-to-date total PR Quality Score and article stats. The PR Quality Score measures content coverage on a point system based on story type, media tier, visuals and coverage placement. Scores for earned media range from a low of 2 points to a high of 10 points.
