Communications & Film
The Communications team logged 102 media touchpoints, initiated 32 targeted pitches and supported 4 media on the ground in Greater Palm Springs in January and February.
Story support was provided for Rachel Ray In Season, Los Angeles Times, 7X7, Red Tricycle, Points Guy, USA Today, Departures, Conde Nast, PureWow, Modern Luxury, Pride Journey, AFAR, Daily Telegraph and AARP.
In addition, Greater Palm Springs was represented at the three-day International Media Marketplace conference and conducted 32 appointments with media representing Food & Wine, Travel + Leisure, National Geographic Traveler, Outside, Lonely Planet, The Points Guy, Architectural Digest and more.
For Film Oasis, the team helped secure production assets and local accommodations for the following TV and online video coverage:
- Live with Kelly & Ryan (3.2 million viewers; ad value of $16.8 million) showcased the destination with a dedicated Palm Springs episode during the final day of the weeklong Live’s Virtual Road Trip. The showcased locations through Greater Palm Springs. The brand team created video bumpers used to highlight Greater Palm Springs experiences.
- The Drew Barrymore Show (800,000 viewers; ad value $69,000) highlighted Greater Palm Springs with a Galentine’s getaway for three guests. Accommodations were provided by the Westin Mission Hills Golf Resort & Spa, and airfare was provided by JetBlue.
- Southwest Airlines released its Destination Palm Springs video and blog. The CVB provided support while the production team was on the ground.
The team also supported several CVB initiatives with the media. For National Plan for Vacation Day, the team worked to get the word out to local, regional and national media on local efforts, promoting a 5-minute guided meditation moment mini-vacation on Facebook. For Love Local, media conversations highlighted supporting local CVB partners. The Trailicious Pass campaign was supported with press interviews and a press release. This has been an opportunity to draw attention to not only hiking but also supporting local restaurants during this recovery.
In support of Cal Travel’s initiative to encourage Governor Newsom to issue guidelines for meetings, the PR team arranged 6 interviews with local media.
On the COVID-19 front, focus was on monitoring media conversation on vaccinations. The team joined biweekly calls and prepared weekly monitoring reports for Riverside County messaging. Other projects for the communications team included participating in the Global Wellness Summit, the Society of American Travel Writers Association's DEAI (Diversity, Equity, Accessibility, Inclusion) Committee, Visit California PR Committee and updates on the Canadian travel market.
