Social Media 

In 2023, VGPS shifted goals to combine the @visitgreaterps and @dinegps channels to look at total metrics together. This is due to how much crossover there is between channels as well as the fact that we only have one channel for TikTok, YouTube, and Pinterest. VGPS exceeded all social media goals in 2023 for its Facebook, LinkedIn, YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram, and TikTok channels, resulting in a combined 52M impressions, 9M video views, and 220K website clicks for the year.  

VGPS distributed 131 reels and TikToks during the year, contributing to the impressions and video views. Year over year, VGPS increased 50% in impressions and 39% in video views compared to 2022 actuals of 35M impressions and 6.5M video views. Approximately 2 million impressions were attributed to viral social media posts. 

Awareness social campaigns supported Time to Fly, What Will You Find?, Holidays, Signature Events, and Oasis of Art. VGPS also ran paid advertisements on LinkedIn promoting The Oasis is Real meetings campaign, upcoming holiday events, holiday shopping, and new relevant website blogs.  

Top-Performing Campaigns 

Your Guide to Greater Palm Springs Series 
In April 2023, Visit Greater Palm Springs launched an inspiring 6-part series with content creator Alle Pierce. This "Your Guide to" series featured themed travel itineraries on how to make the most of a Greater Palm Springs vacation and had six accompanying blogs that were distributed on the VGPS website. VGPS' social team distributed 5 videos on Instagram Reels and TikTok and 6 videos on YouTube. In total, the series generated over 139K video views.   

In fall 2023, VGPS launched Season 2 of the "Your Guide to" series, again featuring themed travel itineraries on how to make the most of a Greater Palm Springs vacation. This series, again produced in collaboration with content creator Alle Pierce, had 4 accompanying blogs that were distributed on the VGPS website. VGPS' social team distributed 4 videos on Instagram Reels, TikTok, Facebook, and YouTube. In total, the series generated over 217K video views through October.   

 

Summer Check in. Chill out.
In July, VGPS collaborated with social media agency Sonic Gods on the destination’s annual summer social campaign aimed at driving awareness and positioning Greater Palm Springs as the summer travel destination through a unique style of video utilizing aerial drone footage and hyperlapse cinematography. Additionally, collaboration with content creators and an Instagram sweepstakes giveaway increased engagement throughout the campaign. 

Through 17 videos and influencer posts this campaign was a great success, resulting in 2.4M impressions and 12.2K collective likes, comments, and shares for the sweepstakes giveaway. 

The overall campaign also resulted in 2.3K new followers on Instagram, increasing the VGPS social media community. 

 

Summer Travel 
VGPS also promoted the Check In, Chill Out campaign with the promotion of our 11 partner co-op videos on Instagram Reels. The videos highlighted summer travel experiences for visitors and in total reached more than 114.7K video views

Pinterest Poll   
In November and December of 2023, VGPS ran a Persona Quiz to encourage people to find their travel styles. The quiz resulted in 597.7K impressions and 1.7K clicks.

Signature Events & Influencer Campaigns

Additionally, coverage of signature events and influencer campaigns significantly added to our social reach in 2023. 

Signature Events
In 2023, VGPS had much success highlighting Greater Palm Springs signature events through Reels and TikToks. Notable event highlights were reels featuring  BNP Paribas Open, Art at Coachella Music Festival, and Desert X 2023. Together, these reels generated 43.7K video views

Influencer Campaigns
In the summer of 2023, VGPS focused on diverse collaborations with influencers inviting three content creators to help support the Summer Eats Pass, summer travel, and trending topics. 

Cindy Wang, also known as @cinfullyfoodie, was invited to create content to support the Summer Eats Pass. Cindy is a paraplegic foodie content creator from San Diego, and her content garnered over 11K views with 1,900 reel engagements.  

Lily Yu, also known as @deafjourney, is a full-time content creator from Southern California specializing in luxury travel, lifestyle, and food. Lily collaborated with Visit Greater Palm Springs to create two reels showcasing her experiences in the destination using American Sign Language. Lily’s Chill Things to Do in Greater Palm Springs Part 1 and Chill Things to Do in Greater Palm Springs Part 2 garnered over 103.5K video views.  
 
Megan Indoe, also known as @boboandchichi, is a full-time travel blogger. Staying on trend with pop culture Barbie-core, Megan created Your Perfectly Pink Greater Palm Springs Itinerary for the VGPS blog and collaborated on a few reels and posts highlighting all the pink places in Greater Palm Springs to visit. These reels and posts garnered over 10K views.

Holiday Content

VGPS supported the holidays' campaign by showcasing all the festive events in Greater Palm Springs through static posts, carousels, stories, and short-form video content. Seven reels were posted to VGPS' Instagram account using trending audio and transitions, which garnered 141K video views.
