JOSHUA TREE WEATHER

When it comes to planning a trip to Joshua Tree National Park, you’ll discover you can’t go wrong at any time of the year. Each season in Joshua Tree unfolds distinct treasures no matter when you visit. Although most agree (and the numbers prove it) that September through May are the ideal months for Joshua Tree weather, you can explore every month of the year. You just need to prepare.

Joshua Tree National Park ranges in elevation from 536 feet in the park's extreme southeast corner to 5,814 feet atop Quail Mountain, with weather conditions varying depending on your exact location within the park. Considering humidity, temperatures are nice much of the year. Park visitors are encouraged to check ahead and prepare accordingly for their Joshua Tree adventure in terms of clothing and activities.

Joshua Tree National Park weather is cool in the fall when summer temperatures decline and occasional storms moisten the landscape. Fall also signals the beginning of the climbing season. Visiting in the winter? You’ll discover the days and nights cooler yet, and you may even be treated to snow which happens infrequently; the winter skies are usually clear and bright. Springtime is a popular time to visit with Joshua Tree weather mild and when winter rains have ensured a magnificent carpet of wildflowers over the plains and peeking from through rock crevices. Spring also begins the best time to view the Milky Way, all the way through the summer.  Although summer temperatures can creep up to 100 degrees during the day limiting hiking, the evenings and nights are mild and ideal for stargazing without a jacket.

Be sure to visit the Joshua Tree National Park Service page for alerts and conditions before hiking.
