Why Golf Courses Reseed Each Year

Every fall, Coachella Valley golf courses go through a process called overseeding—a vital part of maintaining those lush green fairways during the desert’s cooler months. Because the region’s warm-season Bermuda grass goes dormant in the fall, superintendents plant a cool-season ryegrass that thrives in the winter. The process isn’t simple: courses must scalp and remove old grass, prepare and fertilize the soil, spread thousands of pounds of new seed, and keep it constantly watered for several weeks. During this time, many courses close temporarily to allow the delicate new grass to establish without damage from foot or cart traffic.

🌴 Plan your golf season smartly! Use the table below to check aeration and overseeding schedules across Coachella Valley courses so you can tee it up on the best greens all season long.
