Big Morongo Canyon Yucca Ridge Loop
  • Big Morongo Preserve
  • Morongo Valley, CA 92256

To see Greater Palm Springs like never before, embark on the Yucca Ridge Loop Trail within Big Morongo Canyon Preserve, an oasis tucked away inside the canyons of the Sand to Snow National Monument. The 1.5-mile moderate hike climbs 282 feet, leading you to a stunning lookout point with panoramic views of Morongo Valley and San Gorgonio Peak in the distance. The trail winds through the preserve’s wild desert wash and marsh habitats, connecting with a few other trailheads along the way and leading hikers through groves of Mojave yucca, creosote bush, and calico cactus before shifting uphill to the ridge. (Small children may need assistance on the slightly steep climb, but the final views and photo-ops are worth it!) The geology along this trail is otherworldly; keep an eye out for large projections of aplite and gneiss, some of the oldest rock outcrops in California. Total Distance: 1.5 miles Level: Moderate
