Cathedral Canyon Trail
  • Foothill Road
  • Cathedral City, CA 92234

Greater Palm Springs entices all who visit to escape the daily cares of civilization and embrace the great outdoors — and with several trails departing directly from some of the neighborhoods, such as Cathedral Canyon Trail, reconnecting with nature is easier than ever. From the far end of Cathedral City Cove, where visitors are encouraged to park along the paved street near the end of Foothill Road, follow the Canyon Trail for 1.9 miles until arriving at the Dunn Road intersection. From here, perched along the foothills of the Northern Santa Rosa Mountains, hikers have postcard-worthy views of the oasis (and if you time it right and head out before dawn, you can watch as the surrounding mountains glow orange and yellow with the rising sun). Mountain bike tracks are more common than footprints some days, so keep an eye out for cyclists swooping past you on the path. An approximate 1,000-foot elevation gain and a few steep inclines give the out-and-back route a moderate rating, and with little shade, be sure to pack sunscreen and plenty of water.
