Fobes Saddle
  • Fobes Ranch Road
  • Garner Valley, CA 92561

Nestled within the pine- and fir-infused terrain of the San Bernardino National Forest, the Fobes Saddle Trail is a perfect excursion for hikers and their pups. The path scales 928 feet and wiggles through chaparral- and boulder-strewn landscape for 2 miles until intersecting the Pacific Crest Trail at the Desert Divide, a ridgeline along the lower San Jacinto Mountains. From here, almost 6,000 feet above Palm Springs, travelers stop to take in the breathtaking views of Garner Valley, the Santa Rosas, and beyond before returning via the same route (though some continue onward via the PCT). To access the trail, turn onto Fobes Ranch Road — a somewhat hidden dirt path — off Highway 74 and take the left fork approximately 3.5 miles in. (If you reach a gate, you’ve gone too far.) Free parking is available in the turnouts near the trailhead.
