Garner Valley on the Pacific Crest Trail

  • Garner Valley, CA 92561

Discover the Pacific Crest Trail, one of the most treasured and renowned hikes in the United States that spans 2,650 miles from Mexico to Canada, from the lush meadows and rugged mountain surrounds of Garner Valley. Though the San Jacinto Mountains are home to numerous entry and exit points for the PCT, this 5.4-mile out-and-back journey is perfect for a half-day excursion or for hiking newbies still getting their feet wet on more moderate trails (you gain about 918 feet total). After parking in the paved lot at the Pacific Crest Trailhead off Highway 74, turn north and follow the dirt track, which travels through oak and pine forest, past fields of boulders, and along steep cliffsides until reaching a seasonal water source about 2.7 miles in. From here, hikers and their horses or pups can continue onward or return to Garner Valley via the same route.
