North Lykken- Palm Springs Loop
  • North Lykken
  • Palm Springs, CA 92262

The North Lykken Loop Trail combines fitness with phenomenal views of Greater Palm Springs. The 3.6-mile round-trip hike begins at the end of Ramon Road in Palm Springs (where hikers are welcome to park in an unpaved lot) and climbs more than 1,140 feet up a secluded canyon. The trail, which is mostly switchbacks at the start and not suitable for dogs, horses, or bikes, winds its way through rocky terrain until reaching the ridgeline of the lower San Jacinto Mountains. About 1.3 miles in, where a right cut-off turns onto Museum Trail, a couple of picnic tables invite hikers to stop and admire the sweeping vistas of the windmills and palm tree–lined city streets. Follow the same path down to the Palm Springs Art Museum parking lot. Artsy types may want to pop in to the world-class museum and browse the exhibits for a little inspiration; others can continue downtown, where specialty shops, cozy cafes, and upscale eateries offer the perfect reward after your workout. To return to your car, follow South Palm Canyon Drive back to Ramon Road and turn right.
