(Greater Palm Springs, CA) — April 12, 2018 — The Greater Palm Springs Convention and Visitors Bureau (CVB) is showcasing the substantial value that meetings and events have on local businesses and the local economy in support of the 3rd annual Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) on Thursday, April 12, 2018.

In support of this year’s theme, “Real results, real impact, all around the world,” the Greater Palm Springs CVB is sharing the real economic impact that meetings have on the region.

“In 2017 alone, Greater Palm Springs saw total business sales of over $175 million from 310 groups that hosted their meetings and events in our nine cities,” said Mark Crabb, Vice President of Convention Sales and Services at the Greater Palm Springs CVB. “In 2018, we are already projecting an economic impact of over $140 million from 254 groups.”

These meetings directly affect the local job market and economy in Greater Palm Springs.

“Meetings, conventions and other groups help keep over 50,000 people employed in Greater Palm Springs,” Crabb said. “They are also a crucial economic driver that help strengthen our $6.4 billion tourism industry.”

In support of GMID, the Greater Palm Springs CVB will also participate in social media opportunities that underline the importance of the meetings industry.

GMID is a grassroots campaign started by Meetings Mean Business, an industry-wide coalition that not only unifies the meetings industry but also emphasizes the meetings industry’s importance worldwide. Destinations around the world will participate in GMID through press conferences, rallies, speaking panels, social media and more. For more information on GMID, visit the GMID website.
