(Rancho Mirage, CA) – September 3, 2020 – Southwest Airlines has announced its intent to initiate year-round service to Palm Springs International Airport (PSP). The new nonstop route(s) location will be forthcoming and is expected to begin later this year.
Southwest Airlines Chairman & CEO Gary Kelly shared news of service to both Palm Springs, California, and Miami during a weekly video message to the company’s employees.
"Our service to both of these airports will bring new, relevant options for our core customers,” said Kelly. “Gradually, they're rediscovering leisure travel across the country as their own situations allow. Adding these specific airports to our route map will bring us access to additional revenue at a critical time. It matches our available fleet with demand for very popular destinations. Each airport fits our route system exceptionally well. Palm Springs is a great California destination. Southwest has long carried more customers to, from, and within the Golden State than any other airline.”
“We are very excited to add Southwest Airlines to our destination!” said Scott White, Greater Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) President and CEO. “Their iconic brand aligns perfectly with our resort oasis, and the timing couldn’t be better. This will certainly help reduce the negative impact COVID-19 has had on our region and will be a critical component for our recovery.”
"We are thrilled that Southwest Airlines is joining us as a travel partner in Greater Palm Springs," said Tom Tabler, General Manager of the JW Marriott Desert Springs Resort & Spa and Chair of the CVB Board of Directors. "Our group and leisure travelers have been asking us for years when Southwest Airlines will serve our destination!"
