Palm Springs Surf Club
On January 1, 2024, surfers will be able to hang ten at The Palm Springs Surf Club. Designed for surfers, by pro surfers, including Kalani Robb, Cheyne Magnusson, Tom Lochtefeld, Eric Muñoz and the rest of the Pono Acquisition Partners team, The Palm Springs Surf Club features a state-of-the-art wave pool, powered by Surf Loch technology, recreating surf breaks from across the globe and waves that surfing dreams are made of. Curated by Cheyne Magnusson, this surfing haven caters to surfers of all skill levels, offering tubes, turns, and airs. The pool features two distinct breaks: an outer reef for intermediate to advanced surfers, and a reform section for beginners. Dedicated rights and lefts offer longer ride times, while A-frame waves peel in both directions, so surfers can split the peak with a friend. The Palm Springs Surf Club provides a resort-style experience with a restaurant, pool, lazy river and slides (slides will open by Summer.) The Palm Springs Surf Club will offer lessons for anyone interested in learning how to surf.
After a long-anticipated renovation, The Children’s Discovery Museum of the Desert will reopen in March 2024 with new hands-on exhibits to inspire personal growth and engage curiosity and creativity for children under the age of 8. The only facility of its kind in Greater Palm Springs, the museum is a resource for families and inclusive of all learning abilities.
The Spring 2024 opening of ACRES Gateway in Desert Hot Springs will bring luxury glamping in a nostalgic setting to Greater Palm Springs. ACRES, a getaway destination dedicated to respite and rejuvenation, features a collection of 24 completely renovated camping trailers dating from the 1940s to 1978. Each trailer has been equipped with a front deck and a patio with private outdoor cabana and soaking tub sourced with mineral hot spring waters. In addition, luxurious bedding, a private bathroom, air conditioning and heating, and a kitchenette round out the accommodations. Thoughtful planning and design will give guests laid-back luxury and a retro-modern vibe.
Slated to open in Q1 2024 in the heart of downtown Palm Springs and under the World of Hyatt umbrella, Thompson Palm Springs will cater to influential locals and sophisticated globetrotters alike. Designed by B2 Architecture + Design and SMS Architecture, the 168-key hotel will embrace the history and spirit of Palm Springs, offering two elevated pool decks; 8,000 sq. ft. of curated meeting and event space; a thought-provoking art collection sourced by Virginia Shore and Shore Art Advisory; and more, including breezy al fresco Mediterranean restaurant, Lola Rose from budding chef Quentin Garcia.
Canopy Wine Lounge invites patrons to experience an impressive selection of wines curated from some of the world's most renowned winemakers; as well as the only wine vintage crafted by in-house winemaker Josh Kelly, housed in a terracotta-hued wine amphora. Canopy Wine Lounge is the brainchild of Noah Mamet, former U.S. Ambassador to Argentina and a longstanding Palm Springs resident. Christopher Kennedy meticulously designed the modern space against the backdrop of the majestic San Jacinto Mountains.
Minerva's at Life House Palm Springs
Mīnerva’s, at Life House Palm Springs, draws inspiration from the resilient flora of the Coachella Valley, reimagining familiar favorites with seasonal and locally sourced ingredients. Each signature dish is designed to fuel the body and nourish the mind with vibrant, local flavors, as well as educate guests about their crucial role in the desert’s natural ecosystem. Additionally, Minerva’s Pool House offers an all-day, plant-forward menu served in three separate alfresco spaces; and Minerva’s Indoor Apothecary is a speakeasy-inspired cocktail lounge serving a chef’s selection from the evening menu and cocktails made with ingredients grown in-house.
Alice B. is a new restaurant and bar from award-winning chefs Susan Feniger and Mary Sue Milliken that combines Southern California’s incredible seasonal bounty with French and Mediterranean-leaning flavors. The culinary vision is a collaborative effort between Feniger, Milliken and Executive Chef Lance Velasquez. Held annually in January, the Palm Springs International Film Festival celebrates some of the best international films from each respective year. Rip Curl GromSearch National Final – January 4, 2024. The first-ever event of its kind, the 2023 Rip Curl GromSearch is a surfing contest for grommets. (A grommet is a young participant in extreme sports. Originally, a grommet was a surfer under the age of 16.) The competing athletes have qualified through regional events or in wildcard positions, earning the opportunity to compete in the National Final of this inaugural surf competition at the newly minted Palm Springs Surf Club.
The American Express Golf Tournament – January 15-21, 2024. Four days of world-class golf descend on Greater Palm Springs for the annual American Express tournament, a favorite stop on the PGA Tour. In addition to watching top PGA Tour players compete, fans will be treated to concerts by Keith Urban and Train on January 19 and 20.
Coachella Valley Invitational – February 7-18, 2024. The Coachella Valley Invitational welcomes twelve of the biggest clubs in U.S. Soccer to a preseason exhibition tournament at the Empire Polo Club in Indio, California.
