The annual celebration of midcentury modern architecture and design features more than 350 activities and events.

 

(Greater Palm Springs, CA) – January 10, 2020 – Modernism Week is back February 13-23, 2020 with many popular returning events and exciting new experiences.  The diverse scope of activities includes interior and exterior home tours, walking and bike tours, double-decker bus tours, educational lectures and presentations, film screenings, expert panels, garden tours, a classic car show, dinners, nightly parties, musical performances and more. Modernism Week’s CAMP (Community and Meeting Place) will again serve as the central hub for this unique 11-day cultural event.

The celebration kicks off on February 13 with the Opening Night Party “Space Modyssey 2020” at the Palm Springs Air Museum featuring David Bowie tribute performer, Space Oddity. On February 15, this year’s keynote speaker internationally acclaimed architect Daniel Libeskind will share the story of his architectural journey during a talk at the Annenberg Theater at Palm Springs Art Museum, followed by a wine reception in the museum’s sculpture garden.

Also new for 2020:

  • Four Modernism Week Featured Homes and one Modernism Week Showcase Home, all of which will be available for interior tours.
  • “Through the Looking Glass” retrospective fashion show of fine vintage apparel and jewelry
  • World premiere of Frey II: The Architectural Interpreter documentary
  • Palm Springs Modern Committee’s Iconic Home Tour of the Shea Residence
  • “Daughters of Design: Bertoia, Eames and Saarinen” presentation and much more.

The Palm Springs Modernism Show & Sale marks its 20th year this year, and will feature more than 90 top national and international decorative and fine arts dealers at the Palm Springs Convention Center from February 14–17. Palm Spring Modern Design Expo with 40 dealers showcasing contemporary home design products and technology runs simultaneously.

Crowd-pleasing events coming back include the Premier Double-Decker Architectural Bus Tours and Illuminated Modern; tours of Sunnylands, Frey House II, the Cree House, and standout mid-mod homes throughout the oasis including the former Frank Sinatra residence; Modern Garden Tour and Ask a Landscape Designer. Also returning is the Palm Springs Door Tour, a biking excursion exploring the colorful midcentury doors of the Indian Canyons neighborhood.
