Love Local by a Local — Bike Palm Springs

Lori Rodgers (black.in.palmsprings) is the brand ambassador for Love Local, the series that explores the restaurants, shops, and businesses that make Greater Palm Springs unique. Lori moved to Palm Springs from Georgia in 2012 and has been exploring the destination ever since.

Can you tell me a day when you can ride around Greater Palm Springs and NOT see someone on a bicycle? Not possible!  The weather is beautiful. The views are magnificent. There are bike lanes and paths everywhere. Your first stop to enjoying a ride under blue skies is Bike Palm Springs!

Bike Palm Springs was established 18 years ago. Rocky Wood noticed a need for bicycle rental shops. Sometimes necessity is the mother of invention. Now, the owners (Rocky Wood and Tony Torres) have two locations!  The original store is located at 194 S. Indian Canyon Drive.  A new location opened in September 2022, at 267 E Tahquitz Canyon Way, which is only .2 miles away (or a four-minute walk).

Rocky Wood, Owner of Bike Palm Springs

“It’s as easy as riding a bike!” Rocky Wood recommends Fuzion Five Vietnamese, Peppers Thai, and Fisherman’s Deli.

Tony Torres, Owner of Bike Palm Springs

Tony recommends Grand Central and Copleys on Palm Canyon. A hiking trail he recommends for everyone to see is Lykken Trail.

Bike Palm Springs  is open seven days a week.  From October to May, the hours are 8 a.m. - 5 p.m.  From June to September, the hours are 8 a.m. - 12 p.m.

Go inside and discover all of the renting options, or if you need a bike repair, you can have your favorite bicycle tuned up. They work with the Historical Society and offer biking tours.  They will provide you with a free map of the area, with suggested loops, such as the Las Palmas Loop; the Downtown Loop; the Citywide Loop; etc.

They also deliver bikes to hotels and private residences. Bike Palm Springs has a total fleet of 35 electric bikes and 165 pedal bikes.  There are bikes and accommodations for all ages.  Imagine going with your family or a group of friends as a fun way to explore the city or as a fitness challenge.  Might I suggest that you wear something bright and colorful, then choose a bike that complements your outfit.

If you are a local, this is a great place to go when your friends and family come into town.  You know they will want to see the city and this is an intimate way to do it, at your own pace.  If you’re visiting the area, this is a no brainer!  This is the best way to enjoy the weather, feel like a local, discover our hidden gems, take pictures at your leisure, and just cruise in style!
