LOVE LOCAL BY A LOCAL — Delicias Mexican Cuisine
Lori Rodgers (black.in.palmsprings) is the brand ambassador for Love Local, the series that explores the restaurants, shops, and businesses that make Greater Palm Springs unique. Lori moved to Palm Springs from Georgia in 2012 and has been exploring the destination ever since.
Prepare to delight your taste buds and fill your belly. Owners, Angie Denicia and Armando Olvera, opened Delicias nearly three years ago, bringing Mexico City flavors to Greater Palm Springs. They take pride in providing fresh, high-quality food to those that visit. Upon entrance, you'll find a bright and colorful mural on the building that gives you a “taste” of what to expect before you even walk inside. The mural alone is worthy of a visit, but you would be remiss to not go inside and REALLY have a taste!
Angie Denicia and Armando Olvera opened Delicias about three years ago. Let’s mark that as the official time that Mexico City arrived in Greater Palm Springs! There is a bright and colorful mural on the building that gives you a “taste” of the culture before you even walk inside. The mural alone is worthy of a visit, but you would be remiss to not go inside and REALLY get a taste!
Delicias
Pro Tip: A foodie favorite is the quesa-birria tacos!
One glance at the menu and you know you will have to return because you would not be able to eat everything you want in one visit. Breakfast has options such as mole chilaquiles, candy waffles with strawberry butter, and tres leches french toast. If you stop by on a lunch break or looking to sample a few appetizers, try the Delicias guacamole made with avocado, mango, feta cheese, pepitas & cilantro, or try the Queso Fundido which is melted cheese with chorizo and mushrooms -- it's so good! If you are looking for something more hearty, you can not go wrong with the enchiladas, fajitas, or the carne asada plate. They offer street taco plates for those who love a little Taco Tuesday action. If you love dessert, try the chocoflan cake or the rosca de churro. If you can't decide, then order both!
If you like to imbibe, plan that rideshare before you go because their cocktail menu is a presentation! There is no other way to describe it, from smoky drinks to drinks served in a skull, you can sit back and watch the show. When the cocktails arrive, I would not be surprised if you stand up and clap. The owners travel to Colton several times a week to purchase fresh produce for their restaurant and the fresh products are used within two days. The owners share that the “high-quality food and the presentation of each dish reflect the love, tradition, and different techniques of Mexico City Cuisine."
Come for the food; leave knowing that you just had an experience of Mexico City culture!
