Oasis at Home with virtual tours, children’s activities, and healthy living resources

(Rancho Mirage, CA)—March 31, 2020—The Greater Palm Springs Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) created an online resource guide for people to participate in virtual activities while many continue to shelter at home. The new Oasis at Home guide taps a number of Greater Palm Springs experiences the entire family can enjoy.

“As we continue to practice social distancing measures, online content plays an important role in keeping us connected to each other and to our partners in the community,” said Scott White, president and CEO. “From youth education programs to virtual fitness classes, you can take a trip without leaving your home.”

Dozens of local businesses, organizations and area attractions are sharing online content from preparing creative meals to 360 virtual tours of historic homes to interacting with animals at The Living Desert Zoo and Gardens. Some Oasis at Home activities and highlights include:

Virtual Tours

  • Download the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway app and get a peek inside the engine room and explore the ins and outs of tramway mechanics while taking a virtual ride 2.5 miles up the mountain. Explore historic Sunnylands Center & Gardens in Rancho Mirage, the 200-acre storied property where Ambassadors Walter and Leonore Annenberg entertained world leaders. Bring the outdoors inside with expansive views of Joshua Tree National Park and watch the park’s Nature Minute Series featuring a variety of videos of breathtaking natural elements, like a red racer snake in action.

Children’s Activities

  • Go wild for Zoo School on The Living Desert Zoo’s Instagram page @thelivingdesert for quizzes and see plenty of animal photos. Join Councilwoman Grace Garner for a daily 2:00 p.m. story hour reading children's books on Facebook Live. The La Quinta Public Library and the Rancho Mirage Library are also offering online resources including games, audiobooks, videos, magazines, newspapers and more.

Live Your Wellest at Home

  • The Family YMCA of the Desert encourages the whole family to get moving with classes for yoga, youth sports, barre and more. Put your cooking skills to the test with delicious and healthy recipes from some of the top restaurants in Greater Palm Springs.

The Oasis at Home guide also includes a Video Playlist series featuring unique adventures to capture your attention and learn something new about the destination.

The CVB also compiled additional resources for shopping and take-out meals across all nine cities. Seniors First lists shopping hours for area grocery stores. Stay In Take Out dining guide provides to-go options for restaurants.
