VACATION RENTALS HELP OUR COMMUNITY THRIVE
Tourism is the No. 1 economic driver and employer in the Coachella Valley, and well-regulated vacation rentals have long played an important role in our local tourism economy and supporting our quality of life. Not only do they create local jobs, they support restaurants and small businesses, and provide tax revenue to our cities, which helps fund essential services — like police, fire, and public parks — that benefit us all.
With only about 19,000 hotel rooms in the entire Coachella Valley, vacation rentals are essential to support events like the BNP Paribas Open, Modernism Week, Greater Palm Springs Pride, and the American Express golf tournament. Events like these attract hundreds of thousands of diverse visitors from around the world each year.
Vacation rentals in the Coachella Valley are required to obtain permits and follow local regulations or face fines and penalties. In a September 2023 survey, 72% of Coachella Valley residents reported feeling favorably about vacation rentals in their community.
