Desert X marks its tenth anniversary with a bold new chapter in site-responsive contemporary art. Since 2017, the organization has commissioned over 130 artists and welcomed more than two million visitors to its immersive desert installations. Opening October 30, 2027, through May 7, 2028, the milestone edition will align with the desert’s natural rhythms and major regional events, deepening connections between art, culture, and community. Under the direction of Artistic Director Neville Wakefield and Curator Kaitlin Garcia-Maestas, Desert X continues to transform the Coachella Valley into a living canvas where art, landscape, and imagination converge.

Desert X History

Desert X works by both established and emerging artists explore topics such as climate change, immigration, and the environment. Highlights from the previous installments (2017, 2019, 2021 and 2023) range from dazzling mirror displays and larger-than-life optical illusions to augmented reality installations, experiential sculptures, and vibrant wall murals. And with over a dozen works displayed throughout Greater Palm Springs, from Desert Hot Springs in the west to the Salton Sea in the east, many visitors make a weekend out of it, exploring local restaurants, events, and things to do along the way.
